SOBIA SAEED KHAN

THE JUNGLE GYM

The site for this project was the courtyard within the emergency department at the National Institute of Children's Health in Karachi, Pakistan. The goal was to transform this space into an oasis of entertainment and respite for patients and their families, particularly the siblings of sick children. The aim was to make the emergency wing feel more welcoming and less clinical, in order to alleviate the anxiety and apprehension that patients and families often experience in hospital settings. By creating a child-friendly zone for play and distraction, the courtyard could become a source of comfort during stressful times of injury and illness. Overall, the project sought to improve the hospital experience for children and families navigating the emergency department.
